About beeralu
Beeralu lace is a traditional bobbin lace art form from Sri Lanka. Dating back to colonial Portuguese influences in the 16th century, it's made using wooden bobbins that are manoeuvred to weave intricate patterns with fine thread around pins placed on a lace-making pillow. This delicate craft requires immense patience and skill, with artisans sometimes using up to 50 bobbins simultaneously to create complex patterns.
Ethically handmade by female dressmakers working from their own homes in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Your purchase supports their work. Find out more.
